In June, Louise Fili returned to teach at the SVA Masters Workshop in Venice and Rome. At the bellissimo Tipoteca Museo del Carattere e della Tipografia in Cornuda, students took turns setting metal type and printing the message Ognuno nell’arte sua (To each his own art). Then on to study the Roman letter!

Louise Fili Ltd’s logo for Il Mulino, the restaurant on West Third Street in Manhattan, attracted former President Clinton and President Obama during their visit here. When asked about the alluring identity, the presidential duo refused to comment.

For the Food Issue of PRINT Magazine (July/August 2009), Louise used the studio kitchen to make her favorite summer confection, a plum and pine nut crostata. Earlier this summer Louise taught a class in type and food at the School of Visual Arts Masters Workshop in Venice and Rome. The Venice class was held at a beautiful palazzo on the Grand Canal, with an excursion to Tipoteca, the heart-stopping letterpress museum where students and faculty were given free reign of the type and printing presses. Our latest design makeover is particularly close to our hearts—a genuine artisanal Sicilian gelateria in the West Village and Chelsea Market, with the best, freshest flavors we’ve ever tasted. The old identity revealed nothing of the true essence of the company. LFL looked to 1930s pasticceria wrapping papers to give L’Arte del Gelato its authentic and fanciful look, in appropriate ice cream colors. See more of our before and after examples.
