Louise’s first retrospective exhibition, at the New York Art Directors Club, transformed a forty-year career into a multi-roomed house, each environment with its own distinctive color. A sunny yellow kitchen wallpapered with Irving Farm patterns features a deco refrigerator (replete with gelato), and a baker’s rack of biscotti, jams, and crackers. The violet fainting couch in the boudoir is scattered with Hanky Panky lingerie and letters sealed with Love stamps. A deep red library with illuminated fireplace beckons, as do the two glasses of red wine atop a bistro table. A soundtrack of Nino Rota, Anna Magnani, Vittorio De Sica, Edith Piaf, and Jacques Tati completes the fantasy environment.
